The Odeon Alderney
Not many people know that during the second world war, part of the British Isles was occupied and the was the Channel Islands but Alderney was the only island that was completely evacuated. The only people living ion the island were German soldiers and an awful lot of prisoners of war. There were several prisoner of war camps o the island and this slav e la four was used to build the ridiculous amount of fortifications on the island. Alderney formed part of Hitlers Atlantic Wall, which is why so many fortifications were built here. Theres a National Geographic series Calle Nazi structures and one of the episodes is all about Alderney and th Atlantic Wall.
Probably one of the most imposing Nazi built structures on the island. The Odeon sits high on a cliff above an old quarry and can be send looming above much off the Island. It is basically a massive look and ranging tower. In recent years it has been cleaned out, had lighting added and set up as like a mini museum. Like many of things here it’s free to look round.
