I’m a mum of one, cooking and creating on a little island in the English Channel.
I live on the Island of Alderney which is only 1.5 by 3 miles long with an approximate population of 2000. I work from home as a caterer and baking. I make celebration cakes to order, lots and lots of traybakes, single serve bakes and sausage rolls through the summer. I also supply one shop with sandwiches and 2 hotels with jams for their breakfast, all year round.
I try to cook all our meals at home from scratch, which is always tricky when you’re trying to get fussing eaters to consume any fruit or veg. I’m getting very skilled at hiding veg in all sorts of meals and keeping processed foods to a minimum. Food here is also very expensive as it is shipped from mainland UK once a week, so cooking from scratch also helps the food budget go further.
Living on such a beautiful Island, any time off we try to spend out and about. For a small island there are a lot of things to see and do, 5 gorgeous golden sand beaches, miles and miles of walks with the most amazing views. The plethora of forts, bunkers and tunnels to explore.
